Archbishop Michael Fitzgerald is a member of the Society of Missionaries of Africa. He taught in the Pontifical Institute of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Rome, and directed the Institute for 6 years. After serving on the General Council of the Missionaries of Africa, he worked in the Vatican in the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue, first as Secretary (1987-2002) and then as President (2002-2006). From 2006-2012 he was Apostolic Nuncio in Egypt. He has been based at St Anne's in Jerusalem since November 2012.
