Tantur Spiritual Retreat Program
2021 Program Dates: TBD
Tantur Ecumenical Institute will be offering an eight-day guided retreat on its campus in Jerusalem in the tradition of Ignatian spirituality.
This retreat will be an opportunity for participants to pray in silence and meditate on the Bible within the physical context of the Holy Land, all within a short distance of both the Old City of Jerusalem and the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem. During periods of private reflection and prayer, participants will be able to make full use of the beautiful Tantur garden and surrounding olive groves as autumn gives way to winter, as well as our two chapels and our extensive library of religious texts. The program is designed to include opportunity for fellowship with pilgrims if so desired, as well as time for personal journeys to local pilgrimage sites and Christian places of worship within the Jerusalem-Bethlehem area.
The retreat will be given by Fr. John M. Paul, SJ, a member of the Upper Midwest Province of Jesuits. He has ministered in his Province in a variety of ministries: as Director of Jesuit Mission and Identity at Cristo Rey Jesuit High School in Minneapolis, MN; as Assistant Provincial, Formation Director for young Jesuits in training, as Provincial Assistant for Native Ministry; as Director of Jesuit Novices; and as teacher, superintendent of schools, and President at Red Cloud Indian School on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota in the U.S. He has been involved in spiritual direction and directing the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola through individual direction as well as preached methods. The 2020 program will run from Sunday, November 15th until Monday, November 23th.
