December 2018 Winter Retreat

December Spiritual Retreat

December 8th – December 16th, 2018

Saint Ignace Christ Icon

In December 2018, Tantur Ecumenical Institute if will be offering an eight-day guided retreat on its campus in Jerusalem in the tradition of Ignatian spirituality.

This retreat will be an opportunity for participants to pray in silence and meditate on the Bible within the physical context of the Holy Land, all within a short distance of both the Old City of Jerusalem and the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem. During periods of private reflection and prayer, participants will be able to make full use of the beautiful Tantur garden and surrounding olive groves as the autumn gives way to winter, as well as our two chapels and our extensive library of religious texts.  The program is designed to include opportunity for fellowship with pilgrims if so desired, as well as time for personal journeys to local pilgrimage sites and Christian places of worship within the Jerusalem-Bethlehem area.

The spiritual director for the retreat will be Fr. Hans Putman SJ.  Originally from the Netherlands, Fr. Hans entered into the Society of Jesus in 1956 and came to live in the Middle East in 1962. He began offering spiritual retreats during his apostolate in Egypt in 1980 and continues to do so until today. After living in Lebanon, Syria, Egypt and Sudan, he now lives in Bethlehem. Fr. Hans will provide daily spiritual direction and accompaniment to participants.

The program will start on Sunday, December 8th at 17:00 and conclude on Sunday, December 16th at 17:00.
